INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES.
(1.) Write your Centre Number, Candidate Number and Candidate Name in the spaces at the top of this page.
(2.) Write your answers on the Question Paper in the spaces provided.
(3.) Write in dark blue or black pen.
(4.) Do not use correction fluid.
(5.) Do not write in the margin For Examiner's Use

(6.) Answer all questions

(7.) If working is needed for any question it must be shown below, or where working is indicated.
(8.) The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the end of each question or part question.
(9.) Non-programmable calculators may be used.
(10.) If the degree of the accuracy is not specified in the question, and if the answer is not exact, give the answer to three significant figures.
Give answers for angle sizes to one decimal place.
(11.) For π, either use your calculator value, or use 3.142.

(1.) Numbers: $ -3, \hspace{2em} 0, \hspace{2em} 50\%, \hspace{2em} -\sqrt{8}, \hspace{2em} \dfrac{22}{7} \hspace{2em} \dfrac{14}{3}, \hspace{2em} 7 \\[5ex] $ From the list of numbers above, write down
(a.) a natural number,
(b.) all integers,
(c.) two numbers whose product is 22,
(d.) an irrational number,
(e.) a multiple of 7,
(f.) a number with the same value as $\dfrac{1}{2}$

(a.) a natural number is $7$

(b.) all integers are $-3, 0, 7$

(c.) two numbers whose product is 22 are $\dfrac{22}{7} \text{ and } 7$

(d.) an irrational number is $-\sqrt{8}$

(e.) a multiple of 7 is $7$

(f.) a number with the same value as $\dfrac{1}{2}$ is $50\%$
(2.) Arithmetic Expressions: Work out $\dfrac{12^2 - 4^3}{\sqrt{64} + \sqrt[3]{8}}$, show all your working.

$ \dfrac{12^2 - 4^3}{\sqrt{64} + \sqrt[3]{8}} \\[5ex] = \dfrac{144 - 64}{8 + 2} \\[5ex] = \dfrac{80}{10} \\[5ex] = 8 $
(3.) Measurements and Units: Josef has a 2 700 kg bag of rice.
Each rice grain in the bag weighs 0.05 g.
Calculate the number of grains in the bag.
Give your answer in standard form.

Set all units to be the same.
Let us convert 2 700 kg to g.

$ 1\;kg = 10^3\;g = 1000\;g \\[3ex] \text{Set up units: } 2700\;kg \times \dfrac{...g}{...kg} \\[5ex] \text{Set up measurements and units: } 2700\;kg \times \dfrac{1000\;g}{1\;kg} \\[5ex] = 2700000\;g \\[3ex] \text{number of grains in the bag} \times \text{weight of each grain} = \text{weight of bag} \\[3ex] \text{number of grains in the bag} \times 0.05 = 2700000 \\[3ex] \text{number of grains in the bag} = \dfrac{2700000}{0.05} \\[5ex] = 54000000 \\[3ex] = 5.4 \times 10^7 $
